The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, are expected to inaugurate the commencement of academic activities at Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun State.
The official inauguration ceremony of the faith-based institution, alongside the investiture of its pioneer Vice-Chancellor, is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, February 5, at the university’s temporary site in Ikirun, South-West Nigeria.
News men gathered that Minaret University, Ikirun, is owned by the global Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
The Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat of Nigeria, Barrister Alatoye Azeez Folorunso, will formally present the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul Rahman Abdullah, to the academic community and residents of Ikirun during the ceremony.
Minaret University, Ikirun, was among the new private universities granted operating licences by the Federal Government last year, further expanding the number of private tertiary institutions in Osun State and Nigeria at large.
Speaking on the event, the Media Lead of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat of Nigeria, Qasim Akinreti, said the university would also unveil its maiden publication focusing on global peace and conflict resolution.
According to him, the book titled “The Super Powers – Geopolitics of World War and the Pathway to Peace” was authored by Hafiz Yunus Omotayo, a missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat of Nigeria and a journalist.
Akinreti noted that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is globally recognised for its commitment to peacebuilding and interfaith harmony.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. prompt at the Minaret University Mini-Campus, along the Ikirun–Offa Expressway, Ikirun, Osun State.
