FCCPC Wants Patients’ Bill of Right Domesticated in States

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC has called on States to domesticate the Patient’s Bill of Rights PBOR.

The Technical Assistance to the FCCPC Executive Vice Chairman Babatunde Irukera, Mrs Morayo Adebayo-Adisa, stated this in Ibadan, at a Consumer Empowerment Town hall meeting on Patient’s Bill of Rights PBOR.

Mrs Adebayo-Adisa said the domestication of the PBOR Bill was vital to protecting the rights of patients in the country and to make health workers and health facilities accountable.

“Understand that your power over them, your knowledge and what you do for them or with them, puts you in a very powerful position. So, try to protect all their rights,” she said.

On his part, the Lead Consultant, National Program of Action for Strengthening of PBOR, Mr Folami Onirinwa, explained that the bill was important for patients’ welfare.

 “Our strategy is to sensitize consumers at the grassroots level and also healthcare providers”- Mr Onirinwa stated.

Earlier, the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, lauded the initiative, saying the state would adopt the bill after proper consultations.

“Healthcare care professionals should be aware of the fact that patients known their rights” –she said

Present at the event include, coordinator Patient’s Bill of Rights PBOR at FCCPC, Dr Nkechi Mba, and medical practitioners.
