The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has approved 25,000 naira for workers and 15,000 naira for Pensioners as wage award, as part of effort to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
Governor Makinde made this known today, while addressing the aggrieved workers during a solidarity rally at the state secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Governor Makinde added that the wage award would add 2.5 billion naira to the wage bill of workers in the state and noted that the money would be paid from October for the next six months.
Reacting, the State Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, Comrade Kayode Martins and Comrade Bosun Olabiyi appreciated Governor Makinde for displaying his workers friendly attributes.

Comrade Martins and Comrade Olabiyi, therefore, urged the workers to return to work and assume their duties.
On his part, the Executive Secretary, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan lauded Governor Makinde for the approval of 15,000 naira for Pensioners as wage award, saying the agitation of the union concerning the wage will now be rested.

Comrade Abatan said the wage award would go a long way in the lives of retirees in the state, especially those that earn less than 5,000 naira.
