Dementia not from witchcraft – AFDC

A Representative of African Dementia Consortium, AFDC, Dr. Temitope Farounbi has appealed to members of the public not to stigmatize people with Alzheimer/Dementia.

Speaking on Pensioners FM health programme, Radio Clinic, Dr. Farounbi also enjoined families of people suffering from dementia not to confine them.

Dr. Farounbi, who is also a neurologist at University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, described dementia as a condition that leads to progressive memory loss.

Dr. Farounbi highlighted some symptoms of dementia to include loss of recognition, isolation, forgetfulness and excessive irritability.

Also, another representative of AFDC, who featured on the programme, Mrs. Mayowa Ogunronbi, said dementia is a health condition and not as a result of witchcraft.

African Dementia Consortium, AFDC is a body created for the awareness on Dementia with a community advisory board led by Chairman, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, who is also the Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Council, Deputy Chairman, Pastor David Oluwashina, Secretary of the board, Mr. Olayinka Ajomale and Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Shade Oguntola.
