AIUTA, Oyo NUP Join Forces to Empower Retirees

The Association of International University of the Third Age, AIUTA, has pledged to enhance the knowledge of retires and the elderly through a partnership with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State Council.

President of AIUTA, Professor Pierre Vellas, disclosed this while featuring on a special programme on Pensioners FM, on the sidelines of a courtesy by a delegation of the group on the Secretary NUP, Oyo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan

Professor Vellas explained that the collaboration would focus on promoting lifelong learning and social engagement among retirees and the elderly people through voluntary, non-formal educational and cultural activities, without the need for qualifications or examinations.

He noted that AIUTA is committed to advancing global awareness of the needs, rights, and contributions of senior citizens through a dedicated virtual network that connects retirees around the world.

According to Professor Vellas, the Third Age refers to the stage of life after retirement and child-rearing responsibilities, a period dedicated to personal fulfilment rather than professional obligations.

He further revealed that a mobile application and website, known as AIUTA Connect, has been launched to enable retirees to stay connected, informed, and actively involved in lifelong learning and social activities.

Earlier, Comrade Abatan appreciated AIUTA for deeming fit to visited the council, promise have robust relationship in ensuring that the retirees and elderly enjoy the benefits.

Members of AIUTA branches from Senegal, Canada, and Nigeria were also present during the programme.

On hand to receive the delegation were the management and staff of Pensioners FM Led by the General Manager , Dr Babatunde Tiamiyu.
