The President of the Association of Yorubas in Diaspora, South Africa (AYIDSA), Dr. Olusola Agbeniyi, has called for improved cooperation and stronger ties between Nigeria and South Africa.
He made this known while speaking with a Pensioners FM correspondent ahead of the association’s 8th Annual Heritage Day, scheduled for September 19, 2026, at Freedom Park in Pretoria.
Dr. Agbeniyi noted that stronger relations between the two nations would enhance peace, unity, and economic collaboration among their citizens.
He explained that the annual Heritage Day aims to promote unity, preserve cultural heritage, and support national development among Nigerians in the diaspora.
The event, he added, will showcase the richness of Yoruba culture and ensure its preservation for future generations.
He further revealed that notable dignitaries expected at the event include the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; the Sabiganna of Iganna, Oba Saliu Azeez; and Jane Mufamadi from South Africa’s Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.
