The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has expressed deep sadness and outrage at the heinous act of violence that resulted in the kidnapping and killing of journalist Hamisu Danjibga, on September 18, 2023, who was working for Voice of Nigeria, VON in Zamfara State.
BON said the act of violence threatens the freedom of the press and the safety of journalists in Nigeria.
This was made known in a statement by the Executive Secretary of BON, Mr Usman Bello.
BON called upon the State government, Police and other Security Agencies to swiftly and thoroughly investigate the incident, noting that it was imperative that those responsible for the heinous crime were brought to justice and held accountable for their actions.
Furthermore, BON urged the government to take immediate and comprehensive measures to enhance the safety and security of journalists across the country.
BON also extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Hamisu Danjibga during this difficult time.
