The Management of the National Youth Service Corps has denied reports on blogs and social media that a corps member, Mamudo Obaje, was killed by bandits on his way from Kaduna to Katsina for the monthly biometric clearance.
NYSC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, in a statement on Tuesday, described the report as “untrue, but a figment of the baseless imagination of the mischievous writer”, while clarifying that Obaje died in a car accident at Gayaza in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State on January 4, 2024, while travelling from Kaduna to Katsina
The statement read, “The attention of the Management of the National Youth Service Corps has been drawn to a story trending in the social media space that a corps member was killed by bandits on his way from Kaduna to Katsina for the monthly biometric clearance. From all indications, the story is untrue, but a figment of the baseless imagination of the mischievous writer, who wanted to cause unnecessary unrest among members of the public.
“To put the record straight, Corps Member Mamudo Sa’idu Obaje KT/23B/1153, who was serving at Government Girls’ College, Katsina, was in transit from Kaduna to Katsina on Thursday 4th January 2024 and was involved in a motor accident at Gayaza in Kankia LGA of Katsina State alongside other passengers.”
Megwa said two other passengers in the vehicle lost their lives in the crash, adding that the NYSC was in mourning mood over the incident, and had commiserated with the family of the deceased.
He called on bloggers to verify reports and always seek to be factual to avoid causing unnecessary apprehension in society.
In another development, the NYSC has commiserated with the family of the Late Mr Suleiman Ibrahim, who died on January 5, 2024.
