Enforce GBV laws – Stakeholders to Government

Stakeholders have been urged to raise awareness against Gender Based Violence, GBV, to put an end to the menace in the society.

This was the take home charge by the Guest Speaker, Ambassador Adebobola Agbeja, at the Sensitization of Traditional and Religious Leaders organised by Women’s Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, Oyo State chapter in collaboration with United Nations Women, in Ibadan.

Speaking on the topic, “Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls in Nigeria”, Ambassador Agbeja said the fight against GBV is a collective effort, calling on religious and traditional rulers to use their teachings to amplify the dangers of GBV on humanity.

Ambassador Agbeja, also called on the government to enforce laws against GBV in the society.

Earlier, Chairperson, WOWICAN, Oyo State, Dr Ifeoma Amaechi-Obi while lauding those advocating against GBV, said the sensitization is to create zero tolerance in every society across the country, in commemoration of 16 Days of Activism against GBV, which commenced on the 25th of last month.

Dr Amaechi-Obi urged every survivor of GBV to always speak up and report to the appropriate government agencies.

WOWICAN is a faith-based organization into humanitarian services for women, the girl child, families and the society.
