A veteran journalist, Mr Ayodele Aliyu, has harped on the need for media professionals to be trained on fact checking, especially on social media, to stem the tide of dissemination of wrong information.
Mr Aliyu harped on this while featuring on Pensioners’ FM programme which profiles the past lives of the elderly, “Grey Hair.”
According to Mr Aliyu, this can be achieved through trainings on how to use applications that can fact check information on social media.
He also emphasised on sourcing information from credible and verified websites/social media pages and placing of calls to persons who can give accuracy to information.
Speaking further, he urged editors who are the last gatekeepers to be courageous, diligent, stay alert and have a nose for news.
