A Water, Sanitation and Hygiene WASH, Specialists with UNICEF, Mr Monday Johnson has called on the government to ensure that all Nigerians have access to clean toilets.
Mr Johnson made the call in an interview with Pensioners’ FM correspondent, while speaking on this year’s World Toilet day.
Speaking on the theme “Accelerating Change” Mr Johnson, urged all state governments to provide communities with necessary resources to build and maintain clean and safe toilets, in order to achieve the world goal of eradicating open defecation.
Mr Johnson emphasized that open defecation poses significant risks to public health, contributing to the spread of waterborne diseases and negatively impacting overall community well-being.
Some resident in Oyo State who spoke also called on government to build more toilets in public places and make provision for maintenance.
They added that punishment should also be meted on anyone found defecating in an open space.
