Formulate policies to tackle poverty, unemployment – Labour Leaders Urge Govt.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reiterated his administration’s determination to strengthen the state’s security architecture.

Governor Makinde made this known at this year’s International Workers’ Day celebration held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Speaking on this year’s theme, “Insecurity, Poverty – Bane of Decent Work,” Governor Makinde said his administration has strengthened the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, to curb insecurity and enhance productivity among workers.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, the Governor said adequate security in the state would enhance the state economy and increase the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

Chairmen of Oyo NLC and TUC, Comrade Kayode Martins and Comrade Bosun Olabiyi urged the government to reflect on the celebration to prioritise the security of lives and properties of Nigerians.

They also called for formulation of policies that would address poverty and unemployment in the nation.

Comrade Martins and Comrade Olabiyi lauded Governor Makinde for the payment of ten thousand naira subsidy for transportation fare to cushion the effects of the hike in price of fuel.

Earlier, Secretary of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan congratulated workers and called for a more conducive environment for workers.

Highlights of the event included a march parade by affiliated unions of NLC and TUC and presentation of awards to winners.
