INEC not ready for Imo, Kogi, Bayelsa governorship elections –Analysts

Two Public Affairs Analysts, say the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is not ready for free and fair governorship elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states, considering its antecedents.

The Public Affairs Analysts, Comrade Abiodun Bamgboye and Engineer Kemi Babawale said this while featuring on Pensioners’ FM political programme, “The Searchlight.”

According to Comrade Bamgboye, INEC, over the years has been conducting elections the same way with little or no changes, saying the case would be the same in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states.

Comrade Bamgboye, called for the overhauling of the commission and suggested the involvement of representatives from Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Nigeria Bar Association, NBA Labour Unions and political parties in the overhauling, for effective delivery.

On his part, Engineer Babawale blamed INEC for litigations that occur after elections and urged the commission to do proper background checks on aspirants before they become candidates and pronounced winners.

Engineer Babawale, said Nigeria runs one of the most expensive electoral processes in the world, therefore, urging the country’s electoral commission to wake up to its responsibilities.

Comrade Bamgboye and Engineer Babawale, also urged voters in the upcoming Saturday polls in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states to vote for candidates of their choice and be security conscious.
