The Office of Drainage Services, Lagos State Government, raised an alarm about the quality of water in boreholes in the Lekki axis.
The permanent Secetary of Drainage Services Engr. Mahmood Adegbite while speaking in a stakeholders’ meeting in the state, warned that residents who drill boreholes are likely consuming contaminated water.
He expressed concerns about the potential health risks associated with untreated wastewater in the area.
Engr. Adegbite also emphasized that the state’s plans for wastewater treatment could help eradicate waterborne diseases.
He said, “On the wastewater treatment, I will say anybody digging a borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call shit water.
“However, if we are able to treat all the water within this axis, which we have plans for, we should be able to also make sure we eradicate any form of disease that may occur as a result of non-treatment of our waste.”
