Three Public affairs analysts say the Supreme court’s judgment affirming financial autonomy for the 774 local government areas in the federation will enhance dividends of democracy.
The Analysts, Mr Ayodeji Ajisope, Barrister Kunle Abimbola and Barrister Jubril Muhammed stated this while featuring on Pensioners FM Current Affairs programme, Voice of Liberation.
Mr Ajisope, Barrister Abimbola and Barrister Muhammed, said the financial autonomy would also hence freedom to impose local taxes, generate revenue and authorisation of annual budget without state government interference.
The Analysts, however, called for the review of the 1999 constitution of section 162 from sub section 1 to 6 to accommodate the new ruling of the Supreme Court.
Mr Ajisope, Barrister Abimbola and Barrister Muhammed, therefore, urged the people at the grassroots to henceforth, hold their council officials accountable as they discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
