Makinde Calls for Five, Six-year Term in Office

The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has called for a constitutional amendment to allow a single five- or six-year term for political office holders in Nigeria.

Governor Makinde made the call at his Ikolaba residence in Ibadan while receiving a delegation who paid him a Sallah homage following the Eid Kabir prayers held at the Agodi Eid Prayer Ground.

‎Governor Makinde emphasized that a single-term system would enhance governance by reducing the distractions and pressures associated with re-election campaigns, thereby promoting better service delivery and accountability.

‎He expressed appreciation to Islamic leaders and the Muslim Ummah for their prayers and support, which he said have significantly contributed to the success of his administration.

‎Delivering the messages of Olubadan of IbadanLand, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Otun Olubadan of IbadanLand Oba Rashidi Adewolu urged people to remain steadfast and hopeful in the face of challenges. Special prayers were offered for the Governor, the State and the entire nation by Professor Kamil Olosho.

‎Speaking earlier with newsmen at the Eid prayer ground, Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal urged Muslim Ummah to always exhibit the valuable lessons of obedience, trust and true sacrifice to the will of God which are doctrines and lessons taught by the Holy Quran.
