The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has called on President Ahmed Tinubu to constitute Price Control Agency, PCA, to checkmate the greediness of manufacturers and middlemen who arbitrarily increasing the prices of commodities in Nigeria.
The Paramount ruler emphasized on the need to defeat selfishness of producers and middlemen who he said are hampering the nation’s economy through astronomical price increase of goods and services.
He stated the price control mechanism should be enforced to make essential goods and items affordable.
Oluwo however commended President Tinubu for his giant economic reforms, while tasking him to extend the mechanism to the establishment of a price control agency to be saddled with the primary responsibility of monitoring and ensuring uniform and affordable prices for goods
Oba Akanbi who condemned the astronomical increase in the price of goods, described the situation as artificial and wicked.
“If this astronomical increase in the price of goods and services are not checked by a formidable agency to be empowered by the federal government, Nigerians may continue to bleed economically”
A statement by Oluwo through his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, reads “President Tinubu is a reformist. I’m optimistic about his economic reforms. I’m seeing a better Nigeria in this government. The economic reform should be extended to the constitution of a price control agency to defeat egocentric middlemen and producers. It may be painful but there is light at the end of the tunnel”
“Constitution of a Price Control Agency is a necessity to harmonize the prices of goods, prevent hoarding and prevent consumers from buying at exorbitant amount. The agency will further map out modalities for enforcing harmonious price and ensure anyone culpable are punished.
“The enforcement has to be done by all and sundry. Such an agency has to be complemented by government functionaries and individuals. Similar achievements were recorded by the former head of state, General Murtala Muhammed. He inspected markets and ensured people complied”
“A new hope is here. President Tinubu is laying a foundation for a better Nigeria. Let’s encourage him with pieces of advice and commendation where necessary. Nigerians will laugh last. The fluctuating dollar to naira exchange rate is deprecating. Only a capable leader does that. He will succeed”.
