Oyo CP, Stakeholders Strategise on Effective Community Policing

Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Adeoye Fimihan has stressed the importance of collaboration between security agencies and residents to improve security in Oyo State.

Retired AIG Fimihan made the remarks during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting organized by the Oyo State Police Command in commemoration of National Police Week.

Speaking on the theme entitled Inclusive Policing: A Panacea to Improve Security and Economic Growth in Oyo State,  retired AIG Fimihan who emphasised that the task of securing lives and property should not fall solely on the shoulders of police officers and security agencies, urged all segments of society to work together for a safer and more prosperous state.

Retired AIG Fimihan highlighted that a secure environment is essential for attracting investment, boosting livelihoods, and creating job opportunities which are key components for a state’s economic advancement.

In a remark, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, noted that the event was aimed at strengthening police-community partnerships, raising security awareness, and providing a platform for residents to engage with law enforcement officers.

CP Adenola also noted that the event would help the police understand the concerns and needs of local communities, and allow them to develop more effective strategies for maintaining law and order.

According to the Commissioner, the annual Police Week, celebrated every first week of April, and the National Police Day, observed on April 7, were established to honor the dedication and sacrifice of police personnel across the nation.

The event was attended by various service chiefs from sister agencies, as well as traditional leaders from across the state.
