The Oyo state government has approved over one billion naira as gratuities and other retirement benefits to over four hundred retired primary school teachers and local government retirees.
Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Alhaji Lukman Muraina, made this known while speaking at the flag off of symbolic presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries in Ibadan.
Alhaji Muraina said Governor Seyi Makinde also approved additional funds to cater for the payment of pension arrears.
According to him, 2014 and 2019 retired primary school teachers were beneficiaries of the gratuities and death benefits, as well as 2018 retired local government workers.
Speaking further, Alhaji Muraina said all beneficiaries would get an electronic transfer at the comfort of their homes after a physical verification with the board.
Speaking, Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan and Chairman, retired primary school teachers, under the aegis of Oyo NUP, Comrade Dosu Akinpelu appreciated Governor Makinde and advised the beneficiaries to use the gratuities judiciously.
Comrade Abatan and Comrade Akinpelu equally urged the retirees to engage in regular exercise and medical checkups.
Some of the beneficiaries appreciated Governor Makinde for paying their gratuities after 10 years of retirement.
Dignitaries present at the event were Chairman, Oyo NUP, Chief Isiaka Abolade, President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Comrade Ayobami Adeogun, Chairman, retired local government workers, under the aegis of Oyo NUP, Reverend James Ayanlowo and Trustee 2 of Oyo NUP, Comrade Joel Ayodabo.
