Oyo state government has commenced a two day sensitization programme and training for prospective retirees in the state.
As part of efforts of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde in enhancing welfare of Workers in the state, the Local Government Staff Pension Board has organised a maiden two day sensitization programme and training for public school teachers and local government staff due for retirement this month to December, across 7 geo political zones of the state.
According to the Local Government Staff Pension Board, the training themed: “Toward Achieving Hitch-Free Processing of Retirement Benefit” is aimed at equipping the prospective retirees with measures needed in making retirement process seamless, especially by avoiding unathorised persons and middlemen during the procedures.
Declaring open the training, Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni underscored Governor Makinde’s commitment to worker’s welfare especially retirees and encouraged prospective retirees to actively participate in the training and absorb the information and knowledge gained from the training.
Earlier, Chairman, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ige, who commended Governor Makinde’s workers welfare initiatives promised to make the retirement process seamless.
In his opening remark, Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Alhaji Lukman Muraina said the board organised the training to sanitise prospective retirees on how not to fall victim to fraudsters.
In his keynote address, Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, Dr Nureni Adeniran, represented by his Executive Secretary, Mrs Aderonke Ladipo urged the prospective retiree to start gathering their documents ahead of their retirement date to avoid hitches.
Earlier, Chairman and Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo state Council, Chief Isiaka Abolade and Comrade Olusegun Abatan, advised the intending retirees to prioritise their health.
Two participants, who spoke, lauded Governor Makinde for initiating a programme that will open their eyes to how they can go about the retirement process without the use of middlemen.
Dignitaries present at the event were Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on Establishment and Training, Alhaji Siju Lawal, Executive Secretary, Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Sola Akande, Chairman, Retired Primary School Teacher, Comrade Dosu Akinpelu and other government functionaries.
