Oyo Govt. Flags-off Health Insurance Scheme for Primary Schools

Oyo State Government has flagged-off a pioneering health insurance scheme for primary schools pupils.

Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal, flagged off the scheme in Ibadan, which was initiated by Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA).

Barrister Lawal said the purpose of the scheme was to ensure that children have sound health while learning.

The Deputy Governor while charging OYSHIA to double its efforts in extending the scheme to every school in the state, urged parents and teachers to key into the scheme for their children.

The deputy governor also performed symbolic distribution of health insurance cards to some pupils from the eleven local government areas of Ibadan.

Executive Secretary, OYSHIA, Dr. Sola Akande, had revealed that the scheme which targeted ten thousand pupils with the support of UNICEF and Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board would be extended.

Reacting, the Chief of UNICEF Lagos field, Ms. Celine Lafouriere and Chairman Oyo SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, expressed readiness of their agencies to continue to focus on qualitative child education
