Oyo NUT Appeals to Oyo Govt to Recruit Qualified Teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo State wing, has again appealed to the state government to urgently recruit qualified teachers to fill the vacancies in the primary schools across the state.

The NUT State Chairman, Comrade Oladimeji Raji, stated this in Ibadan at an event to mark the 2023 World Teachers Day.

Speaking on this year’s theme “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teachers’ Shortage”, Comrade Raji said the shortage of teachers was affecting the learning

process of pupils.

Comrade Raji also highlighted some of the teachers request to include, implementation of 65 to 40 years Teachers Act 2022 and Urgent approval for the payment of 2022 leave allowance to secondary School Teachers.

Responding, Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Salihu Adelabu represented by the State Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr Adeniyi Olusanjo, said in line with this year’s theme, the government will employ more teachers to fill vacancies in primary schools by next year.

Professor Adelabu said Governor Seyi Makinde led administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of the teachers for the good of the state’s education sector.

Earlier, the Guest Speaker, a Veteran Labour leader, Barr. Olu Abiala, said to get the quality manpower needed in the education sector, Nigeria, must as a matter of urgency, begin to invest in training of teachers and provide adequate working tools.

Highlights of the event include, march past by teachers from various local governments and award presentations.
