The acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has assured that adequate plans are being put in place to address the shortage of manpower in the Nigerian police force.

Mr Egbetokun who said this at a 3-day retreat for the committee of Retired Inspectors Generals, held in Ibadan, explained that the Police Mobile Force (PMF) will be overhauled as a special intervention squad to provide quick responses to security challenges in every state across the nation.

The Acting IGP also hinted on plans to remodel the police mobile force as a special intervention squad and establish a safe school squad to respond to cases of school kidnapping.

Earlier, the Chairman of the retreat, IGP Aliyu Attah Rtd., said though the retired IGPs have become civilians, they must continue to bring their wealth of experience to strengthen the force.

In their various remarks, other retired IGPs, expressed concerns on poor funding, manpower shortage and welfare challenges of officers, noting that addressing some of these issues would reposition the police force.
