Sowore Mourns Renowned Activist Abiodun Aremu

Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress and Convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has mourned the death of renowned activist and Secretary of the Joint Action Front, Abiodun Aremu.

Aremu, who was also a leading voice in the pro-labour civil society movement, was reportedly knocked down by a vehicle while crossing the road to his residence in Ota, Ogun State, around 6 p.m. on Sunday.

He was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel made efforts to resuscitate him with oxygen, but he was later confirmed dead.

Reacting to the development, Sowore, in a post via his Facebook page, described Aremu as a “revolutionary senior comrade and mentor”.

The human rights activist said Aremu’s contributions to social justice and liberation struggles in Africa would not be forgotten.

He wrote, “Sad to hear that our revolutionary senior comrade and mentor, Abiodun Aremu, has passed away. We will deeply miss his courage, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to justice and the liberation of the African continent.

“May his soul rest in power, and may his legacy continue to inspire the struggle for a freer, fairer, and just world.”

Reports states that the late activist will be buried on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
