Surrender Illegal Firearms, Police tell Oyo Residents

The Oyo State Police Command has called those in possession of illegal firearms to voluntarily surrender them at nearest police stations to them.

The State Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Adewale Osifeso made this known to newsmen at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.

SP Osifeso explained that the move was in compliance with the directive of the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokunbo, aimed at addressing the proliferation of firearms.

According to SP Osifeso, the directive also affected all legitimate Firearms owners, calling on them to come for documentation and proper review of their licenses, as there would be an immediate commencement of clampdown on the illegal possession of firearms nationwide.

SP Osifeso also appealed to parents, guardians, leaders particularly in the trado-religious, educational and political sphere to report all suspicious firearms related activities to the Police for prompt response and action.
