Kano State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, has encouraged members of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters to study the code of conduct and ethics of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission and apply them while discharging their duties.
Dantiye made the call during the inauguration and induction of new members of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters held at the Kano State Press Center Secretariat.
As the Chairman of the occasion, the Commissioner emphasized that the flagrant abuse of ethical standards, such as using abusive or vulgar language by some broadcasters, should be sanctioned.
Dantiye added that the government would collaborate with broadcast professional bodies to sensitize the profession and eliminate quacks who tarnish the image of broadcasters.
He assured them of the state government’s support in capacity-building training for effective and efficient service delivery.
In his address, the National Coordinator of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, Mr. Yemisi Bambose, stressed the need for broadcasters to have a professional body, similar to other professions like lawyers, engineers, and accountants, for effective service delivery.
Yemisi explained that the Society serves as a platform and source of inspiration for both serving and retired broadcasters, also acting as a training ground for its members.
In her remarks, the Acting Head of Service, Hajiya Mu’azatu Isa Dutse, congratulated the inductees and expressed delight in having many women members among the professional body of broadcasters.
During the occasion, a veteran broadcaster and former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Alhaji Ahmed Aminu, was awarded honorary membership and appointed as the patron of the Society.
