Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria, OSN, Oyo State Chapter, has called on the government to domesticate National Eye Health Policy in states.
A consultant for the Ophthalmological Department of University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Dr Bade Ogundipe, made this known in an interview with Pensioners FM, while speaking on this year’s World Sight Day.
According to Dr Ogundipe, domesticating the National Eye Health Policy, would bring about inclusiveness, accessibility and affordability for all, irrespective of age and status.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Children Love Your Eyes,” Dr Ogundipe, noted that, children are key stakeholders in taking responsibilities for their health, urging them, not to play with sharp objects close to their eyes and also reduce screen time.
Dr Ogundipe, further noted that protecting the vision of future generations is the responsibility of all, urging parents to ensure regular eye and vision checks for children.
He also urged teachers to draw parents’ attention to children with bad vision, while government could subsidize the price of accessing eye care for children.
