Following the news on the passage of the designer of the Nigerian flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, Veteran Broadcaster, Dr Yemi Farounbi, has described his death as the passage of a historical icon in Nigeria’s history.
Dr Farounbi who went poetic in his tribute said Nigeria failed to accord the man his proper recognition during his lifetime.
The former ambassador to the Philippines advised current Nigeria leaders to always accord the nation’s heroes proper and adequate respect to encourage the younger generation in serving the nation.
Dr Farounbi however called for proper immortalization of the late pa Taiwo Akinkunmi.
Pa Akinkunmi’s son, Mr Samuel Akinkunmi had announced his passing on his social media page, 30th of August, 2023.
Pa Akinkunmi who hails from Owu in Abeokuta, Ogun state was born on 10th of May, 1936.
It would be recalled that the flag was officially hoisted on Independence day (October 1,1960) instead of the British Union Jack.
