The federal government through Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD has launched the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA for 3,000 federal and state government retirees with federal shares.
Deputy Chairman of Pension committee at National Assembly, Honourable Olaide Mohammed made this known at the launch of the pilot scheme of NHIA, held at Oyo state Pensioners secretariat, Agbarigo, Ibadan.
Honourable Mohammed, who said the scheme was part of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to prioritise the health status of retirees, said Oyo and Kaduna states have been selected for the pilot stage.

Honourable Mohammed also noted that the National Assembly would consider the scheme during the 2024 budget planning.
On his part, Acting Executive Secretary, PTAD, Mr Sulaiman Shelleng said the commission covers only federal and state government retirees with federal shares.

Speaking on the similarity of Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, OYSHIA and NHIA, Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo state Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan said the NHIA would only cater for retirees under the payroll of PTAD.


Dignitaries present at the event were, Chairman Oyo NUP, Chief Isiaka Abolade, Assistant Secretary, Comrade Banji Koleosho, PTAD Principal Officers and NHIA Staff.
