The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, Dr Femi Adesina, has called on media practitioners to uphold professionalism and responsibility in their reportage.
Dr Adesina who is the guest speaker, made the call at the maiden anniversary of Melody 100.7 FM held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Speaking on the theme “The Media and National Stability: Navigating the 2027 Election with Responsibility and Patriotism,” he stressed the need for objective, factual and balanced reporting, noting that responsible journalism was crucial to national stability, especially as the country prepares for future election.
He also cautioned against the spread of fake news and urged media organisations to uphold ethical standards in the interest of society.
Dr Adesina also calls on media owners to ensure continuous training for staff in order to uphold professionalism in the practice of journalism.
Also speaking, the General Manager of Pensioners FM, Dr Babatunde Tiamiyu mentioned the neglect of research and scripting as the bane of effective content delivery by broadcasters.

The Chairman on the occasion, Dr. Yemi Farounbi, a veteran broadcaster, commended the owners of Melody 100.7 FM for fulfilling the promise made at the commencement of the station’s transmission, particularly in promoting professionalism in broadcasting.
Dr. Farounbi noted that the media plays a crucial role in national development, stressing that journalists possess great power to positively influence and improve the country through responsible and ethical reporting.
In a remark, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melody 100.7 FM, Prophet Samuel Ojo, popularly known as Baba Authority, said the vision behind the establishment of the radio station is to impact lives by creating job opportunities and contributing meaningfully to society.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to deserving individuals, with Dr. Yemi Farounbi receiving a “Lifetime Award in Broadcasting” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the media industry.
