NDLEA Intensifies Calls for Drug Abuse Prevention

As the world marks World Drug Day, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says drug abuse which is now termed problematic drug use is a moral and health issue that must be tackled.

Deputy Commander, General of Narcotics, NDLEA, Ibadan Zone 1, Mrs Oluwatoyin Tittus-Awogbuyi said this while speaking on this year’s World Drug Day’s theme “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention “on Pensioners’ FM Current Affairs programme, “Trending.”

According to Mrs Tittus-Awogbuyi, the theme means it is better to prevent drug abuse rather than exert energy on the problem that may arise from it.

Mrs Tittus-Awogbuyi noted that the adoption of problematic drug use against drug Abuse became imperative to prevent stigmatization.

She highlighted some of the factors responsible for problematic drug use to Include, economic hardship, peer pressure and poor parenting.

She urged families, friends and the general public to look out for signs such as change in behaviour, multiple use of perfumes and disregard to self hygiene in persons suspected to be abusing drugs and seek medical help for such person.
