An Executive member of the Nigeria Football
Federation, NFF Hon. Nse Essien has expressed concern over the
commitment of some players in the current Super Eagles squad.
Hon. Essien made this known on Pensioners FM’s weekly Sports
Programme “Football 360” while making an assessment of the
performance of the team after playing 1-1 draw against Lesotho and
Zimbabwe in their first two matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Qualifiers.
According to Hon. Essien, some players are not giving to the Super
Eagles the same degree of commitment they give to their clubs abroad.
While affirming that it was the responsibility of the head coach to invite
players to the national teams, the lawmaker in the Akwa Ibom State
House of Assembly, however, called for the inclusion of more home-
based player in the national teams.
Hon. Essien called on every football-loving Nigerian to trust the NFF as
the federation strives to reposition the national teams and ensure the
Super Eagles qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted
by the USA, Mexico and Canada.
