Retirees from all the local government areas of Oyo state today converged on the state secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan to appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts in improving their standard of living.
Pensioners FM Correspondent who was at the rally, reports that the least paid state pensioner in the state now earns twenty five thousand naira monthly.
The retirees under the auspices of Nigeria Union of Pensioners singing praises to God for remembering them in the present administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
In an address tagged “Resurrected Pensioners In Oyo State Appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde” delivered during the rally, the state secretary of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo state council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan commended Governor Makinde for his commitment at raising the lifestyles of the senior citizens.
According to Comrade Abatan, Governor Makinde is paying backlog of gratuities and monthly pensions of retirees owed by previous administrations and the recent approval of 25000 naira as minimum pension.
The Oyo NUP scribe said pensioners in the state are now the highest paid in Nigeria.
Comrade Abatan appealed to Governor Makinde to pay the balanced of the federal government’s 32,000 pension to retirees across board during the removal of fuel subsidy.
Addressing the Pensioners on behalf of Governor Makinde, his deputy, barrister Bayo Lawal pointed out that retirees have served the nation with all their strength, hence the need for them to always smile during retirement.
He stressed the need for labour unions to always channel their demands through appropriate quarters for prompt consideration and approval.
Governor Makinde while appreciating the pensioners for the rally of gratitude, reassured them that all pension arrears would be paid before the expiration of his administration as governor of the state.
