The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP Oyo State Council, has called on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde to investigate the delay in the payment of pension increment for pensioners of the state’s tertiary institutions and Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS.

Secretary, Oyo NUP, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, made the call while speaking to newsmen in Ibadan.

Comrade Abatan questioned why the boards and managements of Oyo State Tertiary Institutions and BCOS are yet to pay the reviewed pension after Governor Makinde’s directive in January.

Comrade Abatan urged the governor to compel the management of the state’s tertiary institutions and BCOS to implement the increment, noting that failure to do so could prompt protest.

Comrade Abatan also pleaded with Governor Makinde to transfer BCOS’s retirees to the Oyo State Pension Board.

On their parts, Chairman of the Retired Staff of Oyo State Tertiary Institutions, Dr Solomon Oladipo and a former labour leader in Oyo state, Comrade Waheed Olojede said efforts made to ensure the retirees get their pension increment  have proved abortive.

Dr Oladipo and Comrade Olojede explained that several letters had been written to managements of the institutions with no response.

Recall that, the boards and managements of the state’s institutions and BCOS had informed the concerned retirees in a letter that they needed a formal directive from the state government before implementation.

The aggrieved persons are retirees of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, The Polytechnic, Eruwa and BCOS.

Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Oyo state Council, Comrade Kayode Martins, Chairman, Oyo NUP, Comrade James Osuntade, Assistant Secretary, Oyo NUP, Comrade Banji Koleoso were present at the press briefing.
