Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, The Polytechnic Ibadan branch has described as unfair the delay in the payment of their August 2023 gratuities for four months.

Chairman of the branch, Engineer Segun Akindele who made this known while speaking with newsmen at the union’s secretariat, Ibadan, said that the state ministry of finance later paid the gratuities in January 2024, without no explanation for the delay.

Engineer Akindele, alleged that funds for the payment of gratuities were released in August 2023 with workers’ salaries, adding that while retirees from other state owned agencies were paid their gratuities, those from The Polytechnic of Ibadan were not paid.

Engineer Akindele called on Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde to set up a committee to investigate the delay in the payment of their August 2023 gratuities.

He  said the union would therefore demand monthly funding of members’ gratuities and increased funding for payment of gratuities, in order to ensure speedy payment for its two hundred and forty-five members.

Engineer Akindele urged the ministry not to prioritise some retirees over others.
