A public health and development specialist, Dr. Stella Akinso, has urged federal government to intensify efforts in ensuring that health workers will not have reasons to seek greener pastures.
Dr Akinso made this known while featuring on Pensioners FM programme , “The Grey Hair,” which profiles the past lives of the elderly.
Dr Akinso, who described the exodus of health workers from the country as alarming and sad, highlighted some ways the government can stem the tide.
According to the reproductive health educator, government can fund the education of health workers and sign a bond requiring that they work for the country for 5 years before leaving for foreign countries.
Dr Akinso added that it is also important for government to prioritise health workers welfare and provide a secured, good and conducive work environment for them.
