Sagamu Interchange bridge: Police Ban Commercial Vehicles

The Ogun State Police Command has banned all commercial activities under the Sagamu Interchange bridge with immediate effect to prevent security threats.

The development followed the growing concerns about security in the area, fuelled by social media reports of an alleged incident on March 31, 2025.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Omolola Odutola, who made this known to journalists in Abeokuta, warned that anyone found carrying out trade within the axis will be arrested and prosecuted

She emphasized that officers from the Quick Intervention Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 and 16 have been strategically positioned under the bridge, at roundabouts, and along inward and outward routes as part of efforts to ensure the safety of the residents and commuters at the critical four-way intersection.

The command spokesperson disclosed that the police were collaborating with transport union leaders, and had further instructed that commercial transport operations be redirected to designated, well-lit, and secure areas to enhance commuter safety.

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, Mr Lanre Ogunlowo, has urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel to avoid falling victim to criminal activities.

He also advised commuters to travel within daylight hours or early evenings whenever possible to minimize security risks.

The commissioner further assured residents of the command’s firm commitment to maintaining peace and eliminating any threats to public safety.
