The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP southwest zone has appealed to the federal government to fully implement the pension increment of 32,000 naira for all federal retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
The Public Relations Officer of the union, Comrade Olusegun Abatan made the appeal while addressing newsmen at the quarterly southwest meeting held in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
According to Comrade Abatan, since the announcement of the new pension increment, some federal retirees were yet to benefit from it implementation.
Comrade Abatan, who is also Secretary, Oyo NUP, said the federal government did not pay the 25,000 naira wage award to all pensioners.
Comrade Abatan appealed to southwest governors to take a clue from Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who approved 33% pension increment of 2010, consequential adjustment of 2019 and 20% pension increment of 2024 to the state pensioners.
Comrade Abatan appreciated Governor Makinde for his commitment to the welfare of pensioners by earmarking two billion naira monthly for payment of gratuities and pension arrears.
