Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Southwest zone, has kicked against the proposed scrapping of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD by the federal government.
The Union made this known in a communique issued at the end of the of state chairmen, secretaries and leaders, held in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Reading the communique, the Public Relations Officer of the union in South West zone, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, said PTAD was the creation of an existing law by the National Assembly under the Pension Reform Act 2004 and 2014 (as amended).
According to NUP Southwest zone, the Stephen Oronsaye Committee’s Report on Civil Service Reforms document states that PTAD be inaugurated in compliance with the provisions of the Pension Reform Act, PRA 2004, in order to provide a single platform for effective and efficient administration of the defined benefits pension scheme.
The Oyo NUP Scribe added that over the years, PTAD has seamlessly carried out its duties in terms of payment of pensions and gratuities, has a resounding database and no report of stolen funds, noting that scrapping it will violate the law.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had during its meeting last Monday proposed that PTAD be scrapped and its functions be transferred to the Federal Ministry of Finance.
