Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP Oyo state Council has appealed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde to put in place without delay wage and pension award for Oyo state pensioners.

The Executive Secretary of the Union, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan.

According to Comrade Abatan, the Federal Government after a parley with the organized labour recently, resolved to grant thirty five thousand naira to its workers pending when the new minimum wage would take effect in 2024, and urged Governor Makinde to also key into it.

The NUP scribe also lamented the hardship fuel subsidy removal has brought on pensioners, saying life has been harsh on the retirees.

Comrade Abatan added that pensioners can no longer buy drugs for their old age illnesses, can only feed twice per day and due to the hike in price of transport fares, they cannot go out as often as they desire.
