As Nigeria celebrates Workers Day, government and other employers of labour have been urged to prioritise the welfare of workers, in reducing the hardship occasioned by the present economic downturn.

An Ibadan based Legal icon Barr. Akeem Agbaje, in his May Day message by his Media Unit, highlighted poor wages, high cost of living and inconducive working environment as some of the challenges faced by Nigerian workers.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Chieftain, noted that these challenges have negatively affected workers’ productivity and zeal to function effectively for national development.

Barr. Agbaje however appealed to the states and federal governments to recruit younger workers as replacement for retired workers, while soliciting for training and retraining for workers.

The legal icon urged Labour Unions to always speak with one voice in demanding for workers’ rights.
