AFDC Appoints Oyo NUP Scribe Abatan CAB President

In a bid to tackle Alzheimer and Dementia diseases, among older persons, African Dementia Consortium, AFDC, has set up a Community Advisory Board, CAB in all communities in Oyo State.

AFDC made this known at a meeting, held at Sir Kessington Adebutu Geriatric Rehabilitation Center, UCH, Ibadan.

According to AFDC the Community Advisory Board will guide researchers to create awareness about dementia in communities and to improve patient engagement, and involvement in dementia research.

AFDC further stated that the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan will serve as the President of the Community Advisory Board.

Other members of CAB include Pastor David Oluwasina as the Deputy President, Mr Ajomale Olayinka as Secretary and Mrs Sade Oguntola as the Public Relation Officer.

While accepting the new responsibility, Comrade Abatan agreed that in many countries of the world, Alzheimer and Dementia diseases have become major health challenges for older persons.

The Oyo NUP Executive Secretary, however, promised to work assiduously with other members of the board and stakeholders to fashion out ways to tackle the menace.
