It was a moment of celebration for students of Bright Ville College, Ashi, Ibadan, as the school football team emerged champions at the Maiden edition of the Pensioners FM 106.7 Five-a-Side Football Competition for secondary schools across Oyo State.
The final match, held at the Olubadan Stadium, Iyaganku, Ibadan, saw Bright Ville College edged Wonderful Group of Schools, Oloje, Ido, in a nail-biting 3-2 victory.
In commemoration of this year’s International children’s Day, the grand finale of the maiden edition of Pensioners FM 106.7 Five-a-Side Football Competition for secondary schools across Oyo State was held between Bright Ville College, Ashi and Wonderful Group of Schools, Oloje Ibadan.
Bright Ville College defeated Wonderful Group of Schools 3-2 in the final match which was played at Olubadan stadium, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
In his post-match interview, Coach Kekedo Eweka of Bright Ville College praised his team’s dedication and unity, attributing the victory to their hard work and relentless spirit.
Coach Eweka also commended Pensioners FM for organizing the competition, describing it as a laudable initiative that encourages sportsmanship and youth development.
On the opposing side, Coach Aare Tiamiyu Asimiyu of Wonderful Group of Schools expressed pride in his players for their resilience and sportsmanship.
Aare Asimiyu further appreciated Pensioners FM for reviving competitive school sports through the exciting five-a-side format.
Delivering his remarks, the General Manager of Pensioners FM, Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu, stated that the competition was reintroduced to revive the fading culture of school sports and inspire a new generation of athletes.
Dr. Tiamiyu also praised the competition coordinator, Mr. Ishola Ibiwunmi, for his outstanding effort in ensuring the event’s success.
In his response, the Competition Coordinator Mr. Ishola Ibiwunmi expressed gratitude to the management and board of Pensioners FM for entrusting him with the opportunity to lead the project.
Earlier, Solution FM beat Pensioners FM Agbalode FC 4-3 in a novelty match.
Speaking after the match, The Chairman and Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners,NUP, Oyo State Council Comrade James Osuntade and Comrade Olusegun Abatan appreciated the efforts of the Pensioners FM Agbalode FC.
Comrade Osuntade and Comrade Abatan also promise to ensure the team keep thriving in future matches
Highlight of the event included presentation of trophy to winning team and medals to the participating schools.
