A Professor of Accounting and Financial Development, Godwin Oyedokun has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC to negotiate with the federal government on high percentage deduction on Personal Income Tax, PIT structure and not total rejection of the tax reform bill.
Professor Oyedokun made this known in Ibadan while delivering a lecture, entitled “Dialogue On Tax Reform Bill” organised by the labour union.
According to Professor Oyedokun, calls for the rejection of the tax reform bill by the union would not solve the issues of double taxation or high percentage deduction on Personal Income Tax.
Professor Oyedokun, however, called on the government to invest more on infrastructural development as a way of improving the standard of living.
In a remark, NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero faulted federal government’s approach on tax reform, saying it is not workers friendly.
Comrade Ajaero stressed the need for the federal government to engage stakeholders including labour leaders before taking further actions on tax reform bill.
