Oyo State Government has charged people of the state to play their roles in accelerating the fight against the spread of malaria.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, gave the charge during the commemoration of 2024 World Malaria Day, themed “Accelerating the Fight against Malaria for a more Equitable World” held at Molete Primary Healthcare facility, Ibadan.
Dr. Ajetunmobi said to reduce malaria burden, commitment must be translated into action by ensuring equitable access to malaria diagnosis and treatment. She charged people to embrace government intervention programmes on malaria eradication, which are readily available at the state health care centres.

The Commissioner for Health, while appreciating partners, World Health Organization, WHO, US President’s Malaria Initiative and Breakthrough Action-Nigeria in the fight against malaria, also called for continuous support to achieve a malaria-free Oyo State.
Earlier in his remark, representative of WHO, Mr Philip Azonto, who spoke on behalf of other partners, said a clean environment, proper usage of preventive and control measures, would complement the government’s effort in achieving malaria-free Oyo State.

Highlights of the event include presentation of treated-insecticide bed nets to participants, especially pregnant women and mothers with children under 5 years.
