The Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP Oyo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to increase funds allocated for payment of gratuities of retirees from tertiary institutions in the state.
Comrade Abatan made the call while receiving the new executives of NUP, The Polytechnic Ibadan branch at the union’s secretariat, Agbarigo, Onireke, Ibadan.
According to him, the bulk payment of gratuities paid as pocket money should be converted to monthly payment.
Comrade Abatan equally solicited for more participation of retirees from The Polytechnic Ibadan in the state’s union activities.
Earlier, Chairman, NUP, The Polytechnic Ibadan branch, Engineer Segun Akindele who appreciated the state executives for free and fair elections of new executives of the branch, noted that they were still faced by non-payment of full gratuities after 20 years of retirement.
Engineer Akindele appealed that their plight be looked into.
Dignitaries present at the meeting were Chairman, Oyo NUP, Chief Isiaka Abolade, Assistant Secretary, Oyo NUP, Comrade Banji Koleoso and members of NUP, the Polytechnic, Ibadan branch.
