Tracy Chapman, the talented singer-songwriter was born on 30th of March, 1964, in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Her mother, Hazel Chapman, was the only parent in the picture and she helped hone her musical skills with whatever support she could.

Tracy Chapman had her early education at Episcopal High School and Wooster School in Connecticut. She continued her education at Tufts University, where she earned a BA in Anthropology and African Studies.

Chapman was discovered while in college when she played at Harvard Square, Club Passim, Nameless Coffeehouse, and more, showing off her guitar prowess. She made her stage debut as the opening act for female music pioneer, Linda Tillery at the Strand Theater in Boston in 1985, after which she signed to a record label.

Since dropping her debut album in 1988, the singer-songwriter who has garnered eight acclaimed studio albums, four coveted Grammy Awards, and albums with multiple platinum statuses has been a household name.

She has also earned several Grammy and prestigious nominations.

Furthermore, she has sold millions of copies of her music worldwide and has risen to number one on the music charts.

Chapman is also interested in politics and social activism and has performed at various social events to support one cause or another.

Her contributions earned her an honorary doctorate of fine arts in 2004, in recognition of her commitment to social activism.

Tracy Chapman is still in the music business, but not really active lately.

On 4th of February this year, she made a surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards, where she performed her song “Fast Car” as a duet with Luke Combs, but she has not announced a comeback.

Has Tracy Chapman ever been married before? This question may never get an answer since the singer ensured that her personal life is not in the spotlight like her professional career. She was however, romantically linked to American novelist, Alice Walker in the mid-1990s.
