A former Staff of Union Bank of Nigeria, Comrade Augustine Onuh has called for the abolishment of contract staff system in the banking sector.
Comrade Onuh made this known while featuring on Pensioners FM programme, “Grey Hair,” which profiles the past lives of the elderly.
According to Comrade Onuh, the contract staff system is affecting service delivery and the level of commitment needed from the staff.
He also stated that the system has created avenue for fraud, calling on Central Bank of Nigeria to device a mechanism to checkmate it.
Comrade Onuh who is also the National Coordinator of Aggrieved Pensioners of Union Bank, APUB, said that the legal issue concerning the pensions owed some retirees by management of Union bank, is now at the Appeal Court.
The aggrieved pensioners had alleged that the bank owed them pensions amounting to over 16.2 billion naira and additional accrued right of over 26.57 billion from their Retired Savings Account.
