The leaderships of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Organised Private Sector, OPS, Oyo State Chapters, have called on the management of Sumal Foods to hasten up on its decision to compensate the family of its worker who died recently, during a protest at the factory.

Oyo NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins and Oyo OPS Chairman, Comrade Adejoke Oyeleke, made the call while reacting to the circumstances surrounding the death of the worker on a sponsored programme, “Workers’ Time Out” (Osise Gbode) , on Pensioners’ FM.

According to Comrade Martins and Comrade Oyeleke, the two unions have met with the management of Sumal Foods and are optimistic the factory would do the needful.

The two union leaders urged Sumal Foods to ensure it prioritises workers welfare as it is their fundamental human right.

Reacting, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employees, NUFBTE, Comrade Adeola Okewole, while recalling what led to the protest and death of the worker, noted that measures have been put in place to forestall future recurrence.

At least one person was confirmed dead as outsource staff of Sumal Foods, in Ibadan, embarked on a protest last month over the delay in the implementation of a palliative package for workers.

Also appearing on the programme were State Secretary, OPS, Comrade Adeola Odedina, NUFBTE Secretary, Comrade Sunday Ojo.
