Minimum Wage: TUC Blames Poor Standard of Living on Government’s Policies

The National President, Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo has called on federal government to come up with sustainable ecomony policies that can enable good standard of living for workers.

Comrade Osifo made the call during a 2-day maiden TUC southwest zone, Labour Summit, themed: “Repositioning The Labour Movement Amid Economic Decline In Nigeria” , held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo state.

Comrade Osifo, who blamed poor standard of living of workers on unfavourable economic policies, reemphasised the need for increment of workers minimum wage.

In his remark, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal said his administration will continue to prioritise workers’ welfare.

Governor Makinde equally sought for collaborative efforts from the state labour unions for socio-economic development.

Earlier, Chairman, Trade Union Congress, Oyo State Council, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi, while appreciating governor Makinde and Comrade Osifo, noted that the summit will be a continuous one to keep abreast challenges peculiar to welfare of workers in the southwest region.

Oyo state Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Musbau Adetunji, Oyo state Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on Labour Matter, Comrade Adebayo Titilola-Sodo and all the chairmen, TUC southwest zone were among dignitaries at the event.
